Me and some friends… just chillin’
Rock and roll music, if you like it, if you feel it, you can’t help but move to it. That’s what happens to me. I can’t help it”
Elvis Presley
Me, too, Elvis… me too! I do not understand, and in fact, hold a person in deep suspicion, if they can stand perfectly still when, for instance, Bruno Mars’ hit “Perm” comes over the speakers. Where are they from, and what is their intention on our planet?
You may not realize that I fancy myself a bit of a dancer. Actually, I’d rather dance than eat. Those of you who know me know that the above statement is true, and quite audacious (my love for food is evident and legendary). On the dance floor, what I lack in skill, I make up for in enthusiasm (much to the chagrin of my children!). You may also know that I’ve been on a bit of a fitness jag here of late. I’m out there walking the dog most days, enjoying being outside, trying to make my 10,000 steps (my watch is constantly – cheerfully – annoyingly – reminding me that I “can DO it”!!!).
Sometimes, however, the walk is not enough, and I feel the need to break out the tunes (some old school, disco, and newer stuff), and bust a hip. That’s right, folks, there’s a party going on in the privacy of my living room, in the proximity of my speakers, or wherever I’m wearing my new AirPods (oh my, they are awesome!!!). Part of the fun I’ve had in planning this blog is a series of posts concerning the best playlists for different aspects of our lives. Today, you’re going to get a small dose of the best music to dance/exercise to (obviously, this doesn’t even crack the surface, so let’s just call this volume 1)! Dancing is a great way to sneak up on exercise. It gets your heart rate up, gets your steps in, and you hardly even notice, because it’s so much fun. So, put on your knee brace and get moving! This list contains warm-up, get cracking, and cool down selections (in that order) (don’t forget a “woman of a certain age’s” favorite prophylactic – Advil):
Human Nature – Michael Jackson
Let’s Stay Together – Al Green
Georgia – Boz Scaggs
Tighten Up – Archie Bell and the Drells (for all my friends who were in Miss Webb’s 5thgrade class at Clifton Elementary!)
Perm – Bruno Mars (I dare you to be still!)
Hold My Hand – Jess Glynne
Someone Else’s Life – Jo Dee Messina
Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson (featuring Bruno Mars)
Lovely Day – Bill Withers
You Get What You Give – New Radicals
1, 2, 3, – Gloria Estefan
Treasure – Bruno Mars
Love Never Felt So Good – Michael Jackson w/ Justin Timberlake
Look What You’ve Done to Me – Boz Scaggs
She’s all I Ever Had – Ricky Martin
Some of these you know very well, some, maybe not so much. Check them out, and feel free to message me what songs get your body moving. I LOVE adding to my own collection!
And, when you’re done, pop that Advil (if you didn’t already), and ease, ever so slowly, into your La-Z-Boy You earned it! Next time, we’ll cover my favorite book series – a really great escape by a fantastic author! Until then!
Anything Bruno gets ya going!! If not your already dead!!

Bob Segar’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” always gets me moving! And The Temptations “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.” Love those two songs and I too have found myself dancing around the living room when a good song comes on. The dogs think I’m crazy, but that’s okay.
